How to Share a spreadsheet?

Oct 29, 2012 at 12:09 AM

Excel 2010 features a cool little thing where you can share an excel workbook on a network location, so that several users can edit it simultaneously.

I believe sharing also protects the document with a password. I read that OpenXML didn't support protected files, so I'm thinking this may not be possible with ClosedXML either...

Is it possible to trigger this feature using ClosedXML?

Thanks!

How do you do this in Excel?

  1. Load a workbook
  2. Click the "Review" ribbon
  3. In the "Changes" section, click "Protect and Share Workbook"
  4. Click "Enable Track Change to Share the workbook"
  5. Set a password (optional)
  6. Click OK: It will save the workbook and enable "Shared".

At this point, any number of users can open and edit the excel file simultaneously.

Someone figured it out on my question on StackExchange. I didn't try it yet!

The above link tells how to share a workbook using OpenXML.

Is this feature available with ClosedXML. If yes, can any one share the sample code.
